How To Make A Click-To-Dial Or Click-To-Call Link For Your Website

A Simple Tag Can Make It Easier For Your Customers To Reach You

There are over 2 billion mobile devices out there. Last year mobile internet usage surpasses desktop usage for the first time in history. We see this trend on our own website, with almost exactly 50% of traffic coming from mobile devices. In this article, we look at how to incorporate your LinkedPhone business number to your website to make it easy for your visitors to connect with you by simply tapping your phone number or icon.

Click-to-call or click-to-dial refers to adding a functionality to your webpage in which a person clicks on an button, image or text to connect with with you by phone call. This can be easily achieved by converting your phone number on a webpage into a clickable link. This makes it easier for your website visitors to reach you which in turn can lead to more sales for your business.

Creating a Click-To-Call Link

Creating a clickable phone link is easy and it is supported by all browser. All you have to do is wrap the phone number up in a hyperlink reference attribute using the “tel” protocol.
Here are a couple of examples:

<a href=”tel:+1-877-538-5888″>1-877-538-5888</a>
<a href=”tel:+1-877-538-5888″>Click to Call Us!</a>

The tag works with images too. For example, if you have a phone icon that dials your number the tag would look like this:

<a href=”tel:1-877-538-5888″>
<img src=””></a>

That’s it. It’s very easy.

Additional Click-To-Dial Tips

  • Best Practice – If you cater to an international customer base make sure to include international country codes so that your customers always reach the correct destination. In North America, +1 is the country code. The examples above would work from anywhere in the world.
  • A clickable phone link not only works well with mobile devices, if your customers have Skype or another softphone software installed on their computer, the above examples will trigger a call from those applications.
  • Google Local Business uses Structured Data to find specific information about your business when crawling. If you want your Google to easily find your business number to display in their local business section you should include a structured data script on your website. Here is an example of what that would look like:

<script type=”application/ld+json”>
“@context”: “”,
“@type”: “Organization”,
“url”: “”,
“name”: “LinkedPhone Business Name”,
“contactPoint”: {
“@type”: “ContactPoint”,
“telephone”: “+1-877-538-5888”,
“contactType”: “Customer service”
